It's Jeter's New York in Gatorade's Uplifting Tribute Ad
Weeks Before His Final Game, Player Honors Fans in NYC
Sep 18, 2014
Gatorade honors the retiring Derek Jeter in this heartwarming ad that captures #2 walking the streets of New York just before a Yankees homegame. Directed by Smuggler's Henry-Alex Rubin, the black and white spot was shot in just a few hours, just before a home game in July. It shows Mr.Jeter giving props to his fans for all the support they've given him throughout his 20-year career, including a nearby bar owner who had been wondering when he would ever stop in. "You never invited me," the athlete tells him. To add to the nostalgia factor, Frank Sinatra's classic tune "My Way," backs the story.
The campaign also includes print running in the New York Daily News, Sports Illustrated and the New York Times.
