The Realm System Brings Resistance to Gaming

Production company Goodoil Films, which has created work for Honda, Toyota, Domestos, Libra and more, is forging new territory in the gaming world with the launch of The Realm System, a new platform that brings resistance to the videogame experience.

While VR headsets will help make you feel as if you're in the middle of all the action, Realm allows for a more "physically immersive" experience that lets players feel the actual pushback and force of being in an action-packed scene -- whether they're fighting in a boxing ring or heaving a club atop a zombie's head.

"Just like the real world, now your physical strength, fitness, the precision of your body's movements and technique can all be real time factors in the video game world," Goodoil Chairman Matt Long said in a statement. "Resistance affects everything we do in the real world. Whether its opening a door, swinging a bat, climbing, lifting, holding, it's all about resistance. That's what makes The Realm System 'real' and gives it so many potential applications."

The system was developed over six years as part of a $4 million research project that included clinical trials and peer reviews at Teeside University in Middlesborough, North East England. While gaming is an obvious application, you can also easily see how the system could translate to fitness, sports and health purposes.

The Realm System recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, through which it hopes to raise marketing funds.

Mr. Long said the company will be showcasing its tech at the International International Game Developer Conference in San Francisco from March 4 -6.
