It’s an exciting holiday season for Saatchi & Saatchi London, which in May was named agency for the John Lewis Partnership—becoming the marketing partner for both the Waitrose and John Lewis brands, both of which are known for their epic Christmas adverts.

We’re still waiting on the 2023 John Lewis holiday spot—generally the most anticipated of them all—but Waitrose rolled out its holiday campaign this morning. It’s anchored by a richly colorful 90-second spot directed by Autumn De Wilde and featuring the classic Depeche Mode track “Just Can’t Get Enough.”

Set at an impossibly lavish holiday party, the spot sees the hosts and guests navigating the usual party mishaps—and Graham Norton—with aplomb.

In the end, not even a power outage can dampen the festivities.

The message at the end, “When the food’s good, everything’s good,” rings true. And while the plot is a well-worn story—wasn’t M&S just complaining about this kind of pursuit of perfection in the face of adversity?—De Wilde’s work is visually spectacular. Overall, the spot is broadly welcoming.

“It’s my personal and professional opinion that food at Christmas fixes everything,” said Franki Goodwin, chief creative officer at Saatchi & Saatchi London. “You can get the odd present, or outfit or quiz question wrong but if the food—and the wine—is good, then everything will be good. This joyful campaign is simply that played out at scale and with real heart—you can rely on Waitrose for the good stuff, and the rest is, well… it’s gravy isn’t it?”

The campaign also includes a number of out-of-home executions.
