The Farmer’s Dog, the direct-to-consumer pet-food brand, received its first Emmy Award nomination Wednesday, joining fellow first-time nominee Dove as well as Apple and Squarespace among the hopefuls for best commercial.

The Farmer’s Dog was nominated for its 2023 Super Bowl spot, “Forever,” which was widely praised as one of the best ads on this year’s game—even winning the USA Today Ad Meter.

Apple placed four spots among the seven nominees. They include “The Greatest,” its brand spot about accessibility, and “R.I.P. Leon” for the iPhone—both of which won Grand Prix awards at Cannes Lions last month. Spots for AirPods and Apple TV+, the latter featuring Timothée Chalamet, rounded out Apple’s group of contenders. 

Dove was nominated for “The Cost of Beauty,” its spot from April chronicling a girl’s journey into her teenage years as she struggles with a life-threatening eating disorder triggered by toxic social media.

Squarespace was nominated for “The Singularity,” its 2023 Super Bowl commercial in which Adam Driver enters a mind-bending dimension upon realizing Squarespace is a website that makes websites.

Apple has been an Emmy nominee in each of the past five years but hasn’t won since 2014 (for its holiday spot “Misunderstood”). Squarespace won the Emmy in 2017 for “Calling John Malkovich”—the only other time it’s been nominated. Dove, despite its long history of celebrated advertising, has never been nominated for an Emmy before.

Nike and Sandy Hook Promise have split the last four Emmy Awards, with Nike winning in 2019 and 2021 and Sandy Hook taking the prize in 2020 and 2022.
