Visa is encouraging store owners to make copycat versions of its holiday campaign
Brand's biggest U.K. holiday campaign to date from Saatchi & Saatchi sees small biz folks singing along to Queen
Editor's Pick
Visa's U.K. holiday ad encourages people to shop local and features real small store owners signing along to Queen's "Somebody to Love." But the idea doesn't stop there—the brand is asking other businesses to create their own versions of the spot too.
The campaign is the biggest U.K. Christmas campaign by Visa to date. Created by Saatchi & Saatchi London and directed by Gary Freedman via Independent, it kicked off with a TV spot that features 13 real-life shopkeepers, including a bookseller, greengrocer, antique dealer and café owner, singing lyrics from the song.
Independent retailers are encouraged to create their own version and post using the hashtag #WhereYouShopMatters, and the winning ad will air in a primetime TV slot in the run-up to Christmas.
Visa is also supporting over 150 independent retailers with personalized adverts on billboards in city-center locations including Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, and London. There will also be geo-targeted ads on social media.
