We all know dogs are a winner at the Super Bowl (Budweiser's puppies being in a case in point). But the canine theme in this year's big game spot from Heinz is somewhat surreal -- and it's all the better for it.
The ad, by Miami-based agency David, sees a stampede of dachshunds (aka weiner-dogs) that have somehow become fused with real hot dogs, racing down a grassy hillside to the strains of '70s soft-rock anthem "Without You." Turns out, they're heading straight into the arms of Heinz's "Ketchup Family," the brand's range of condiments, including its ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce and Sriracha sauce.
The spot builds on David's previous Heinz work, a ridiculous love story between Heinz Ketchup and Heinz Mustard, directed by Jeff Low of Biscuit. The Super Bowl spot, which he also shot, will air in the third quarter, is equally quirky and memorable.
